Customer Requirement
Our plastic injection-molded parts manufacturer needed a solution to automate closing tops of drink and food containers. The parts are food-grade components and require operation in a clean room environment.
The MESH Solution
MESH supplied two Omron LD90 AMRs with powered roller conveyor toppers for this clean room operation. The customer was already familiar with AMRs in other parts of the facility, and this addition expanded capacity and improved overall plant throughput.
The AMRs traveled on a regular path from several injection mold machines to assembly and test machines and then to debagging machines. Mold machines dropped parts into plastic bag-lined stainless steel totes. The next available AMR moved to the mold machine, signaled the machine’s exit conveyor, turned on its powered top, and received the tote with parts. The AMR then traveled to the appropriate assembly machine to deliver the tote filled with parts.
Once assembled parts were ready, the next available AMR transported the tote to the debagging machine, where assembled parts were transferred from the stainless steel tote to a shipping carton. The bag and case were sealed, and the stainless steel totes recirculated within the clean room.
The shipping carton was then sent to a MESH gantry palletizing system where it was weighed, labeled, passed through a metal detector, and stacked onto a shipping pallet.
MESH supplied the entire system solution, including simulation and time studies, the two Omron LD90 AMRs with chargers and fleet manager software, a PC workstation, and two powered roller conveyor toppers. Full installation, commissioning on-site, ongoing training, and support were also provided.
